Chartered Builders, Greendale Construction Limited, has continued its program of SCoLA re-clads for schools with a 41 week contract at Bishops Waltham Junior School for Hampshire County Council. The works, which commenced on 6/07/2020 and are due for completion on 10/05/2021, consist of the re-cladding of the SCoLA buildings on the school grounds, together with associated works such as roofing and some minor internal and external alterations and improvements. Greendale will replace the existing cladding with a new lightweight aluminium frame and insulated panels, brick slips and insulated render.
SCoLA buildings for schools were introduced in the 1960s as an affordable and quick building method to meet the demands of expansions within the education sector. However, poor insulation and over glazing can make the classrooms uncomfortable learning environments as well as consuming a lot of energy. The re-cladding program not only makes the learning environment more comfortable for students and teachers alike, but also reduces the buildings’ carbon footprint.
Nick Child, Head of Greendale’s Winchester Office, commented: “Greendale’s re-cladding work at Bishops Waltham School will enable staff and students to work in a more pleasant and energy efficient learning environment. This is Greendale’s fifth SCoLA recladding project for Hampshire County Council which is being carried out by our team in three phases to minimise disruption to the school.”
