Lewis-Manning Hospice are inviting people to take part in their Hospice to Hospice Walk on Saturday 18thMay from Oakhaven Hospice in Mudeford to Lewis-Manning in Sandbanks, or the opposite way if preferred.

The walk, now in its fourth successful year, is a 26 mile walk, known as a marathon walk, which takes place  along the coastal path between Poole and Lymington with walkers supporting the hospice of their choice. The route is almost entirely flat so is ideal for walkers of all standards, especially as it’s non-competitive – a chance to enjoy the spectacular scenery.

For those who think that a full marathon is too much, they can start halfway and complete a half marathon and still join in the fun. Miss Dorset, Stephanie Wyatt and Lewis the Bear will officially start the walk at 8.30am at Evening Hill, Poole. Registration is at 8.00am.

Walkers supporting either Hospice can choose to start from either Poole or Oakhaven, and walk to respective destinations. Miss Christchurch finalist, Alexandra Harrison will start the walk at Oakhaven. Both start points will see walkers set off with a cuppa and a bacon sandwich and they will be greeted back at their destination by tea and cakes. There will be volunteer marshals’ and check-in points along the route and there is a refreshment stop at Mudeford provided by Rapid Relief Team*, who are great supporters of the  event.

Clare Gallie, CEO of Lewis-Manning Hospice, said: “We are keen to raise as much money as possible and engage with as many groups and individuals as possible. The walk is a non-competitive event, all walkers, groups and clubs, are welcome and can take their time to complete their chosen distance. As long as you are healthy and are wearing sturdy comfortable footwear there is nothing to stop you taking part. You can walk for just a few miles, for 13 miles or for the full 26 miles. We promise you it’s a fun event, and a chance to enjoy the day along the beach front, whilst raising much needed funds for our hospice.”

Clare continues, “Everyone has their own reason for taking part, walking for a loved one, a work colleague, to keep fit, or to meet new friends. It’s an enjoyable walk along the seafront, with no traffic to worry about, you can do it at your own speed, getting in your stride and support the charity.”
