Two giant teddy bears have been presented to children’s hospices Julia’s House and Naomi House & Jacksplace by Freemasons in Bournemouth.

Members of Bourne Lodge handed over the cuddly creatures which are bound to be enthusiastically received by the children.

Julia's House is based in Corfe Mullen and Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices provide care to families from Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Berkshire, West Sussex, Surrey and the Isle of Wight.

Both charities are actively supported by the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) and since 1984 Freemasons’ contributions to hospices have exceeded £12m.

Of that total, Julia’s House and Naomi House & Jacksplace have received £70,000.

The MCF also provides grants each year to roughly 240 hospices that receive less than 60 per cent of their income from the NHS and statutory funding.

The teddies were specifically donated by Craig Thurlow, and the lodge’s charity steward Steve Price, said: “We are very pleased we’ve been able to assist Julia’s House and Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices.

“They do an outstanding job helping children with terminal or life limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families through very difficult times.”

As well as donating through the MCF, local Freemasons donate regularly to local charities and in June a presentation evening in Bournemouth saw £31,500 handed out.
