Superior, a leading manufacturer based in Dorset, continues to support The Extra Mile, a fundraising initiative introduced by Julia’s House.

Superior’s head of training academy, Katie Bodman, and quality systems manager, Sue Byrne, visited Broadstone Middle School last month for the final Extra Mile of the year. A total of 476 students took part on the day and to date, a total of £15,749.47 has been raised in total from Extra Mile events across Dorset and Wiltshire.

The Extra Mile encourages children in local schools to run, skip or hop a mile to raise funds for their school and also for Julia’s House, the Dorset and Wiltshire children’s hospice charity which supports life-limited children and their families. All funds raised through Extra Mile events, are split between the school and Julia’s House. Schools can use the money raised to fund additional materials, trips or valuable equipment and resources.

Superior sponsored The Extra Mile throughout 2017 and has continued its support throughout 2018. Sue Byrne, quality systems manager at Superior, commented: “We’re delighted to continue to support The Extra Mile for Julia’s House. It’s a unique fundraiser that not only supports the charity and the amazing work they do, but also allows the schools involved to re-invest their half of the fundraising back into the school.”

Sarah Agnew, community fundraiser at Julia’s House, commented: “The Extra Mile is not about who walks or runs the fastest, but about children having fun with school friends and helping other children who may be too poorly to walk or run. It benefits both the school and the families we support and is a really simple and enjoyable way of sharing fundraising.

“We are delighted Broadstone Middle School took part in the Extra Mile. Half of what they raise this year will go towards helping local seriously ill children and their families in our hospices and in their own homes, giving exhausted parents a much-needed break!”

Superior has its own company-run Apprenticeship Academy on-site, offering apprenticeships to students as young as 16, giving apprentices the chance to learn about engineering, science and manufacturing. All apprentices are given the opportunity to gain a degree.
